The themes for the Building Challenge are “top secret” until the day of the meeting. This is to help inspire club members to use their imagination on the spot instead of coming with a preplanned blueprint. Bricks and mini-figures will provided by the store, all you need is your imagination! All creations will be displayed in the store for all our customers to admire! Germantown Community Library

Inherit The Wind
July 31 – August 8
Germantown Community Theatre
Based on the Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925, INHERIT THE WIND is a high intensity legal drama that GCT is proud to present through our All Children’s Theatre Program. The play follows Bert Cates as he is put on trial for teaching Darwin’s theory of evolution to his high school science class. As the trial unfolds, audiences are led on a search for truth and asked to consider their own limits when it comes to freedom of thought.

Sunday Afternoon Paddle

This is a surprisingly pleasant three and half mile section of the Wolf that parallels the Shelby Farm trails on river right and the Germantown and Memphis Greenway Trails on river left. Take the family out and enjoy picnicking and swimming from some of the most beautiful sandbars on the Wolf. Parents or legal gardens must accompany minor children. Prior paddle experience is not required but paddlers must be old enough and be physically able and wiling to paddle. Bring a boat or rent one. Registration required
Gadget Lab for Kids!
Mondays, August 10th & 24th 4pm
Children aged 6-12 are invited to learn through play on one of the Library-owned Kindle Fires, iPad Minis, and iPad Airs. Children are also encouraged to bring in their own tablets. A new technology skill will be taught each session, such as how to download an e-book or how to access The Tennessee Electronic Library. These informal sessions will allow time for gadget trouble-shooting, app-sharing and free-play. Registration Required.
Playhouse On the Square

Set in a northern English town amidst the turbulent 1984 miners’ strike, Billy Elliot the Musical is in inspiring tale of one boy’s journey as he exchanges his boxing gloves for dancing shoes. Featuring music by Elton John, The New York Times declares that Billy Elliot the Musical “isn’t a dance show; it’s about why people need dance.” Recommended for ‘tweens and above.

Paddle, Picnic & Swim

Take the family out and enjoy a picnic and swimming from some of the most beautiful sandbars on the Wolf. Prior paddle experience is not required but paddlers must be old enough and be physically able and willing to launch and paddle their craft under naturally primitive conditions. Bring your own boat or rent out. Registration required.
Back to Basics Workshop

School might be back in session but the summer fun with SDP is still going strong. Join us for a back to school celebration SDP style: with dance, music, acting, and more. This workshop is for the experienced performer and the new kid in school. Join the SDP staff for a refresher or dip into the basics of theatre terminology and elements. Can’t remember what a scale is, or need to know how to do a pirouette, or how to find your way onstage? Then ditch the schoolbooks and come study with us for the day as we welcome back the school year. Free, registration required, ages 8-adult
