A lot happens between 12 and 24 months!  Learning to walk, starting to talk, and working on making those fingers work!  So many options for toys at this age.  Here are some the moms recommend:

My little kid at 18 months

  • WOW! toys are great fun and kept my son’s attention for several years
  • We gave our son a fully-loaded Kettler for his 1st birthday and we probably used it for four years (now his brother is using it).  We purchased the foot plate and the back-steering wheels so we could push him before he could reach the pedals, then he graduated to pedaling, then to pedaling and steering.  Money very well spent!
  • Play silks from Magic Cabin
  • Play kitchen and food
  • My son has been addicted to his Playskool Busy Gears toy since he was a little over a year old (he’s 28 months now).
  • Hot Wheels
  • Melissa and Doug stackers
  • ANYTHING involving Thomas the Train
  • Bath toys
  • A push toy the child can walk with
  • Wooden puzzles
  • Any type of play set house with figures (her favorite is sesame street)
  • Vehicles of all shapes and sizes
  • Stacking toys
  • Blocks
  • Duplo Legos
  • Board book
  • Shape sorters
  • Coloring books/crayons/stickers
  • Peg board with pegs (different sizes/shapes/colors)
  • Pretend food
  • Dolls that can be “fed” and push in a stroller
  • Videos – Sid the Science Kid, Sesame Street
  • Books on tape
  • Two is a great age to get a wooden train set.  We purchased a Pottery Barn train table with two drawers on wheels (still in use 7 years later, full of Legos) for my son’s 2nd birthday and asked family members to purchase the tracks, trains, and other interesting pieces.
