A 71-acre mixed-use neighborhood is planned by Elmington Capital Group and Crews Investment near Shelby Farms Park
Elmington Capital Group and Crews Investment Holdings LLC have submitted a concept with the planning office for “Dwell at Shelby Farms,” a 71-acre mixed-use neighborhood off of Raleigh LaGrange Road. A Wednesday afternoon news release about the project billed it as a $142 million project.
Spaghetti Warehouse to close Memphis restaurant in two weeks
Spaghetti Warehouse announced that its Memphis restaurant, located at 40 Huling Ave., will be open until Sunday, Nov. 19, after 30 years in operation Downtown.
Fairgrounds plan calls for multi-purpose sports venue
The City of Memphis wants to bring another multi-purpose sports, events, recreation and entertainment venue to the Mid-South Fairgrounds.
FedEx and Walgreens hit relationship milestone
Memphis-based FedEx Corp., in partnership with Walgreen Co., now has package pickup and drop-off services in more than 7,500 Walgreens stores across all 50 U.S. states. During FedEx’s first quarter 2018 earnings call, the company announced it would be in roughly 8,000 Walgreens by the end of October.

Memphis Public Libraries ‘start here’ by upgrading neighborhood branches
Decades and 17 branches later, Memphians have continued to shape library branches to meet neighborhood needs. A new strategy undertaken by Memphis Public Libraries intends to underscore libraries as community centers with unique identities. In addition to access to books and computers, libraries offer a variety of free programs that make each branch a true visual reflection of their community.
Brooks Museum’s $110M move Downtown could be completed by 2022
Much of the city is still reeling from the September announcement that the Brooks was looking to leave its iconic 101-year-old home in Midtown’s Overton Park followed a month later by the proposal that the Brooks become the anchor cultural asset in a proposed $225 million redevelopment of the riverfront that would also include at land bridge connecting Mud Island to Riverside Drive and a freshwater aquarium.
Local ‘shipping container village’ preps for opening
Shipping containers have been re-used for restaurants, homes and shops. And, at the end of November, a local shipping container village for retail will open in Midtown.
Malco building IMAX theater at the Paradiso in East Memphis
Malco has begun construction on an IMAX theater at its flagship East Memphis multiplex, the Paradiso. The 300-seat auditorium is expected to be ready in time for the Dec. 15 opening of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” which includes scenes shot in the IMAX format.

FedEx Express to purchase up to 50 new planes
FedEx Express — a subsidiary of Memphis-based FedEx Corp. — announced Wednesday, Nov. 8, it planned to purchase 30 ATR 72-600F aircraft with an option to buy up to 20 more of the same model. While the cost of the deal was not disclosed, the list price for a single aircraft is $26.8 million.
Memphis College of Art: A $30M ‘miracle’ could save the school from closing
Following a rich 81-year history in Memphis, including nearly 70 years at its campus at Overton Park, the Memphis College of Art announced this week that it will stop recruiting new students, effective immediately, and begin making plans to close the college.
