The Rumba Room

You never know what sort of question will pop up on the East Memphis Moms Facebook page. One week we covered both young widow support groups (info in this post) and the single mom dating scene within a few days. Everyone’s needs are different, and important too – we’re better moms when we’re happy!

A mom asked: “Several single moms(40-50 yrs old) looking for places in East Memphis or midtown for “socializing”…somewhere in between meat market and boring! Where are the “happening” places? And what nights are fun? Would be great to have a weekend “Places to Go” report, like the daily things to do with kids posted on this site!! Walrus last weekend at Swanky’s was the scene we like…I highly recommend!!!!”

Here’s what the moms had to say:

Have to go downtown for this one, but the Rumba Room is really, really fun. Ladies get in free before 9:00 and they do a little mini group salsa lesson at the beginning of the night. Fun bar without too many college kids and no smoking.

Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Bartlett (213-9393). They have a practice party every Friday night (except this week) for dancing without the meat market. If you decide to take lessons (the introduction try-it-out lessons are cheap too!), the party is free. If not, it is $10, I think. I love it! Singles and couples are welcome and represented. Tell them Tracy sent you, please.

Neil’s on Quince near Lynnfield is scheduled to open in the next week or two and should be a great place to go!

I am not single, but I have been to Salsa many a time for dinner and they have live music and a lot of singles on Wednesday nights.

Almost time for patio season but Salsa, Swanky’s, Owen Brennan’s (seasonal crawfish party’s), Sharky’s. All within about 50 yards of each other. Patrick’s and the new Jim’s Place on Poplar could be options too¬†

For midtown: Cooper Young- Alchemy for drinks, The Beauty Shop for dinner, Cafe Ole for margaritas on the patio. The patio at Bosco’s is also awesome for drinks and/or dinner. East Memphis: Old Venice has wine specials on Wednesday, I think, I second Swanky’s (trivia night on Mondays especially)
