Last weekend I had a date with my husband.  A rare and wonderful thing.  We opted to go downtown with a few ideas but not a solid plan.  We stopped at Local Gastropub for a drink first.  A small place on S. Main St. with a bar, outdoor seating, some indoor lounge-type seating and tables.  Then we took a short walk to Flight, in the rain.  Oh well…at least it cooled off a bit!

This is a two-story restaurant with a bar and huge windows overlooking S. Main and Monroe.  White tablecloths, wait staff in black, a hostess in a pretty dress, and lots of sharp looking customers. I would not bring young kids here, but that’s just me.  I’m sure if you went early it would be fine, but at a place like this I’d personally rather go with adults only!

My husband had been to Flight once for lunch (which the waitress said didn’t count) and I had never been.  She was extremely cheerful and explained how things work there.  Basically you can order anything (and I mean anything) as a “flight” – three small portions – or you can order something full-sized.  We opted for flights of everything.

The salad flight was a watermelon-feta salad (not my favorite, too much feta), a pear-lettuce-brie salad (YUM) and the always low calorie (ha!) iceberg wedge with creamy dressing and bits of bacon.  With this we each had a wine flight.  I’d tell you which ones but my husband is the wine person in the family.  I have a better palate and can pick out flavors, but I don’t know regions or grapes as well as he does – so I guess we’re a good team.  At any rate, I had three small glasses of red, along with a card of wine names, logos and a description.  That was fun because I could attempt to taste the flavors they described on the card.

There are two seafood flights, two meat and one “feathered.”  We opted for a meat (filet, pork and elk – I think) and a seafood (lobster, scallops and shrimp).  It was all delicious, especially the scallops (which I noticed the foursquare folks raved about as well).

For dessert we had a port flight and some over-the-top chocolate flight.  It was decadent.  This was all that was left, and the only picture I took all night LOL!

Get a sitter and go some night.  It’s fun to try so many different foods in one night – you’ll feel like you’re a judge on a cooking show – a really good one!
