Last weekend my husband and I dropped the kids off at Kid Station so we could all have a night off. The kids had pizza and we ended up at Interim. That wasn’t our initial plan, but it worked out well.
Our first plan involved a couple of area restaurants that unfortunately were booked. Our bad. Next time we’ll make our plans in advance! Another East Memphis restaurant we had not tried yet did have availability, so we got a reservation and headed there after dropping off the kids. We were apprehensive when we noticed very few cars in the lot, so we decided to have a drink at the bar and then decide what to do. You know that saying – if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything – well, let’s just say the vodka tonic was good and leave it at that.
So I guess you could say we were at Plan C at this point, so we opted for a sure thing. A restaurant that has been consistently good with both food and service, and it has a nice atmosphere – Interim. It was still on the early side, so we landed a table and placed our order.
We started with a cold pea soup that we split. I can’t imagine eating the entire thing myself. It was a tad bland when you didn’t get a bite of the radish or mint garnish (which was delicious), and we noticed another patron adding pepper to hers, probably for the same reason. I had the trout and my husband had some fish that was on special (which I can’t recall) – both were great. Then we splurged on the Brioche Bread Pudding…which seemed to take forever but was worth the wait. Wow was that good!!!
This is a white tablecloth sort of place, so I’d recommend it for a parents-only evening. There was a sweet and very well behaved boy next to us, with his dad and grandparents, but I’d only bring kids there for a special occasion. We’ve also eaten at the bar several times (they make a fabulous burger) and the service there is great as well.
The open kitchen set-up of this restaurant makes us long for Roosters Wood-Fired Kitchen in Charlotte – a restaurant with a bar built around the kitchen, so the kitchen staff becomes part of the entertainment. We loved to sit and watch the professionals at work. Just in case anyone in the area needs an new idea!
