Ah…donuts. Soft and sweet, and warm if you’re lucky. Yesterday we stopped by Howard’s Donuts for a treat…and it certainly was. Friday, June 3rd is National Donut Day (created by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served donuts to soldiers during World War)…a great excuse to get out and enjoy some donuts!
Besides donuts they have bottled drinks, tea and coffee. My big kid opted for donut holes – they had 4 varieties this morning: glazed, powdered, cinnamon and chocolate frosted. He told me the powdered were the best ones, and he had a white mustache to emphasize that point.

My toddler, as always, wanted the donut with the plastic clown face thing stuck in it, and then proceeded to try and eat his like a dog, something he’s doing a lot lately. At least it wasn’t on the floor.

There are plenty of tables to sit at, plus WiFi and a few newspapers and magazines at the tables. It certainly seems like a bit of a neighborhood hang out. The customers I’ve interacted with have always been very sweet, especially to my kids. As we left the store yesterday after a challenging trip to the potty (“don’t touch that!” “leave your brother alone!”) a customer said to me: “these are the best of times you know.”
Yeah, I know…it’s just not always easy to appreciate that when your in the moment!
