The Memphis Railroad and Trolley Museum is now open downtown on South Main, next to Central Train Station. It’s technically not a ‘kids museum’ but there was nothing but kids and parents when I went there and the kiddos were definitely entertained. The obvious grabber for the kids is the Thomas the Tank Engine exhibit, where my kiddo (Reed, almost 4) got to play conductor and control the trains running up and down the tracks. There are also small scale functioning train models and a large one that will fit most kids under age 5.
They also do birthday parties, packaged with food from Grawemeyer’s, which include a trolley ride around South Main. You can park on the street in front of the museum or on GE Patterson (the closest cross street).
