Swim Lessons & Swim Teams

June 4, 2019 by Sally 15 Comments

Backyard pools are starting to open up and vacation plans are being made – that means it’s time to make sure your kids can swim! If you’re going to enjoy some pool time this year you need kids who know how to enjoy the water safely…it’s tough to enjoy the pool with a kid who won’t let go of you in the water.

Here is a list of pools and other water fun.

Here are some places that offer swim lessons, some are membership organizations but all offer classes to non-members as well. Scroll down for recommended competitive swim teams for all the Olympic hopefuls out there!

Parents are welcome to come watch the last day of lessons. But unfortunately parents don’t stay for all of the lessons. It’s done this way to limit as many distractions as possible for the students.

I posted this question on my Facebook page and several parents recommended competitive swim teams. I’ve added them to the bottom on this post.

The Pool School at St. George’s out in Collierville is fantastic. Very small class size, well qualified instructors who are all extremely focused and patient with the kids, and each tiny class and its instructor are monitored well and steadily. The pool complex at St. George’s is incredible, with both an olympic sized pool for teams, and a much smaller, 5′ (at the deep end), heated pool for the classes.

We live in midtown and made the drive to Collierville every day, 4 days a week, 2 weeks at at stretch. It was worth every ounce of gas. My boys swim like fish, and my older son is very interested in getting on a team. He could qualify easily.

The price is so low as to be misleading. You might think, “How could a good swim program charge so little?” The answer is that they truly want to teach kids to swim. They don’t want the lessons to be cost prohibitive. They want the kids safe and happy, and they’re very good at accomplishing those goals.

    Go!
