Is there anything more classic than a little girl taking Memphis Ballet Lessons? Dance and ballet lessons have been shown to dramatically improve athletic performance and coordination all around so don’t hesitate to enroll your little boys, either! Here are recommendations from the East Memphis moms for area dance programs. Studios marked with an asterisk (*) have been recommended by moms of boys. • I’ve taken adult classes at Children’s Ballet Theater/ Tennessee Ballet Junior Co located at the Racquet Club of Memphis for several years. The instructors are excellent, providing individual attention to all students. It is a very welcoming environment. I’ve taken class with the junior company at times and have been very impressed with the quality of instruction and dedication of the students. It’s been special watching the students flourish, progressing through the levels, and earning their first pointe shoes! I highly recommend the school to all levels of ballet students – children and adults!
• I would also add to the list Children’s Ballet Theater/Tennessee Ballet Junior Co at the Racquet Club. We have had a great experience there for the last several years. Our girls look forward each year to performing in their production of The Nutcracker and Spring Recital. This dance school is open to the public.

• Over a year ago, we were looking for a serious ballet school that offered top-notch training for our then 8-year old daughter. We found it at Roudnev Youth Ballet. Excellent instruction in the classical Russian technique, professional and timely communication, and a wonderful group of girls and their parents. The owner, Dmitri, is a former soloist of the Bolshoi Ballet who has trained professional dancers. Younger-age ballerinas begin with Ms. Kristin, Ms. Erin or Ms. Monique, all sweet teachers with impressive dance backgrounds of their own. When a girl is ready for more advanced instruction, she is invited to take Dmitri’s class, where her technique and skill will improve rapidly and tremendously. Dmitri’s understanding of the body is incredible, and he takes great care that his ballerinas do not experience dance-related injuries. We’ve been there for over a year, and we have been completely happy with the studio and with how our daughter has grown as a dancer.

• The Dance Academy of Bartlett just started offering 2-year-old classes this year (2016). I have 2 girls that dance there and we love it! My oldest has been dancing there for 4 years, my younger one this is her second year!
• My daughter has danced with Dance Academy of Bartlett for 11 years. They are focused on dance education. The dancers learn ballet terminology as well as technique. Students who wish to compete have the opportunity to do so. While we have a lot of fun and perform well at competitions, that is only one aspect of the program. The studio strongly supports educational opportunities such as the TN Governors School. Many of our students have become dance majors, taught dance or majored in related fields. DAB recitals are fabulous. The teachers at DAB care about their students. We are a proud DAB family.

My daughter is 5 and has done Discover Dance 3 and 4 and will be in 5 in the fall. Her teacher is a former professional dancer with the ballet and really makes it fun for the girls. She has learned how to plie and several classic positions through storytelling and make-believe. She loves going each week!

• Dance Dynamics has a boys class for ballet and tap, hip hop, jazz and tap is mixed. Located near Wolfchase mall. It’s a Christian owned studio so clothing and dances are more appropriate than the “dance” norm. Been there for years
• I have had two daughters dance at Dance Dynamics. I highly recommend the program. The owner, Annette Wilson and former owner of Star Circuit Dance, Kay Harber teach the younger ones. They both are sweet and kind. Dance Dynamics also employs highly skilled technically trained instructors, from classical ballet to the most current trends in the dance world. Both of my daughters danced competitively through high school. I can tell you that at competition, Dance Dynamics beat every competitive studio in Bartlett. Many studios will say that they are national champions. A question to ask, is at what level? Were they national champions at the intermediate level or the advanced level? Dance Dynamics senior dance members are national champions at the advanced level.
