The Favorite Playgrounds of East Memphis Moms

May 28, 2011 by Suzanne 14 Comments

The moms recently gave their opinions on the best playgrounds in the area.  Take some time to explore a bit and see which park is your favorite.  Usually each one has it’s pros and cons!

This is a mixture of City of Memphis, Germantown, Arlington and Collierville Parks, a couple of East Memphis churches, and of course – Shelby Farms!  Some parks are also used by schools, so keep that in mind when you plan a visit.

Woodland Discovery Playground at Shelby Farms Park my review
500 North Pine Lake Drive

East Parkway Playground at Overton Park
East Parkway North just South of Sam Cooper
shady
EMM review

Rainbow Lake Park at Overton Park
1914 Poplar
EMM Review

Avon Park
310 N. Avon
this park is also the playground for White Station Elementary school

Holmes Park
Messick Rd at Hickory Crest Drive
quiet & hidden. Hickory Crest, Greentrees neighborhood, behind Holy Spirit. There are walking trails (gravel) a playground over pour-n-play, and a pretty bridge over a creek.

Sea Isle Park
5220 Sea Isle

Pauline “Pep” Marquette Park
corner of Park Ave & Mr. Moriah Rd

Peabody Park
712 Tanglewood St.
Read this review from the I Love Memphis blog.
Peabody Park has an indoor pool and a small splashpad/sprayground that is open to the public during the summer months.  Shady certain times of the day.

Second Baptist Church
4680 Walnut Grove Road
‎“you can go anytime except t/th 10-2” (when their Parents Day Out is in session)

Independent Presbyterian Church
4738 Walnut Grove Road
There is no school at this church, but in addition to Sunday mornings they have childcare on Wednesday eveningsTuesday mornings this church has a women’s ministry program with childcare from 9:30-11:30, so these would not be good times to use the playground

Second Presbyterian Church
4055 Poplar Avenue EMM review
Go in the parking lot off Tuckahoe Road (near Goodlet) and there are two fenced in playground areas.  The one for younger kids has a large shade structure and cushioned flooring (great for crawlers).  There are also benches, and if you go inside the church there is a coffee shop (The Second Cup) in that area (walk towards the Poplar entrance, it’s on your left in the corner).  The playgrounds are open to the public when Parents Day Out is not in session, which is M/W/F 8:45am-2:30pm.

Germantown

Cameron Brown Park
8626 Farmington Boulevard
shady

Riverdale Park – Everybody’s Tree House
7345 Neshoba Road
“fantastic”
“Definitely Riverdale!”

Dogwood Park
8970 Ashmere Road

Poplar Estates Park
1130 Poplar Estates Parkway at Wynterball Drive
shady, with picnic tables and an open field

Neshoba Park
1236 South Germantown Road

Germantown Station Park
3061 Laurinburg Circle

McVay Park
7335 McVay Road
shady

Collierville

Suggs Park
163 East South Street Collierville, TN
“a good bit of shade”

Water Spray Park & Ryan’s Place Playground at W.C. Johnson Park
419 Johnson Park Drive Collierville, TN
Handicap accessible and shaded. Open May through September, the spray park is intended for kids ages 12 and under and their parents. There is a non-resident fee of $10/person (kids and adults), payable at the Collierville Community Center (440 West Powell Road) before usage.

Arlington

Playground of Dreams
5990 Chester St Arlington, TN
“We went to the Playground of Dreams in Arlington for the first time the other day and my 2 year old loved it.”

Hinton Park is off of Holmes Road in Collierville and my boys love it! Lots of land to run around on, a “lookout hill”, sand pit, climbing structures, a lake to walk around, tons of shade trees and I think more is suppose to be added at some point. Hope others enjoy it as much as we do!

Hi, do any of the playgrounds have a merry-go-round? I know this is not popular anymore, but my son has a science project (Physics) and needs to find one! Desperate! Also, need to find a teeter-totter for his lab. I think the Shelby Farms one is sufficient even if not traditional, though. THANKS!

Very late reply (3 years +), but just in case anyone else reads this comment and wonders about the answer… the playground in Overton Park has a merry-go-round.

I just went to the new Fletcher Creek Park playground today. It’s great! It has a couple of baby swings and multiple sets of regular swings, a couple large playground sets and a big covered pavilion with picnic benches underneath. There also is a field to play in and walking trials. I also like how the playground is covered with that rubber material. Only two downsides are the lack of a bathroom and it can get put in the sun while playing n the equipment.

I agree that this is a great park, and very new. It’s around the corner from Chimney Rock elementary.

At the Collierville Spray Parks, there is a non-resident GROUP fee of $10/person (kids and adults), payable at the Collierville Community Center. Groups are large groups from child care facilities or summer/church camps that are bringing children in by bus or van.

I don’t see Holmes Park on here, maybe because it’s so quiet & hidden. Hickory Crest, Greentrees neighborhood, behind Holy Spirit. There are walking trails (gravel) a playground over pour-n-play, and a pretty bridge over a creek.
